This year, we’ve had to get a head start on back-to-school preparations and have prepared a tutorial for you to make a pencil case that we absolutely adore!
Color boxes are heavy, bulky, and often fall open. Colored pencils get mixed up, and we end up spending a good amount of time sorting them again. With today’s proposal, you’ll create a very convenient pencil case to carry, where the colors will always be organized and visible at the same time!
Inspired by professional brush holders, it’s very practical to take anywhere – both for school and to have on hand so that the little ones can unleash their artistic flair anywhere.
It could even be a fantastic gift for an artist friend!
Want to know how to make the pencil case?
Materials you need for the DIY pencil case:

- Manubens P.505 elastic band, 25mm wide, color 2 white
- Manubens P.200 cord, 8mm wide, color 3 beige
- Manubens P.5500 corrugated cardboard, 3mm wide, color 77 orange
- Padding cotton
- Fabric
- Tape measure
- Pins and clips
- Scissors
- Sewing machine

How to make the pencil case step by step:
- Cut:
- 2 pieces of fabric, 45x25cm each (for the body of the pencil case).
- 1 piece of padding cotton, 45x25cm (to fill the body of the pencil case).
- 2 pieces of fabric, 45x7cm each (to make a flap and hide the tips of the colors).

Prepare the flap by taking the two strips of fabric, 45x7cm each. Place them wrong side to wrong side, sew leaving one side of 45cm open. Once sewn, turn it inside out and iron.

Adorn the flap with corrugated cardboard. Present it, place pins, and stitch down the middle of the corrugated cardboard.

Now take the piece of padding cotton, a piece of fabric, and the flap, and join them with pins or clips.

- Cut 45cm of elastic band that will be used to hold and organize the colors. Present it centered on the fabric, put a couple of pins, and mark with a sewing pen every 1.5 cm. Leave a wider piece at the end to place a pencil sharpener.
Sew the elastic band along the vertical marks.

Now it’s time to attach the cord that we’ll use to close the pencil case. Attach it with a pin or clip over the elastic band. We’ve used about 90 cm to be able to wrap it several times.

Let’s go for the second piece of fabric for the body of the pencil case. Present the corrugated cardboard around the entire contour of the fabric with pins and sew it along the edge of the inner part so that when we turn the work, half a wave remains outside to embellish the seam.

- Now face the right sides of the two parts we have and sew them just above the seam of the corrugated cardboard application.
Be sure to leave an opening on one side to turn the work.

Turn the work, finish sewing the contour, and iron.

If you’ve never sewn with a machine, it’s a golden opportunity to start practicing. Surely, the artists in the family will love their new – and practical – pencil case.
