DIY to Add a Festive Atmosphere to Your Terrace
When summer arrives, along with the warmth, come dinners on the terrace, festivities, and gatherings with friends in the garden. Do you remember the paper ribbon garlands that decorate the streets during festivals? What if we made our own with fabric ribbons?
Today’s craft is easy, highly decorative, and 100% sustainable. We will use all the ribbons left over from other projects and can reuse them for various occasions.
To make the garland, you’ll need these materials:
- Manubens P397 white waxed cord: width 4mm.
- Ribbons of different colors, textures, and widths. Anything you find at home can work: organza, jute, corrugated, satin, linen, polka dots, stripes, lamé… And if you don’t have enough, in the Manubens catalog, you’ll find all the ribbons in your favorite textures and colors.
The execution of the garland is so easy that we will explain it with photos. Ready?

Select the ribbons you have at home and choose the combination you like the most.

Cut them all to the same length and take advantage of creating the color and texture pattern that works best.

Start by making a loop at one end of the cord. It will serve to hang the garland. Then fold the first ribbon in half…

And tie it around the white cord. Leave enough space, about 10 cm or so from the knot.

Repeat the process, combining different color patterns. We started with neutrals, ochres…

Continue with pink and nude tones…

Move on to turquoise tones to add a cool touch to the combination.

Finish the ribbons by cutting the ends diagonally.

Continue repeating the color pattern and make the ribbon as long as needed.

Also, finish the other end of the cord with a loop and a knot.
Our ribbon garland is now finished. What do you think of this summer craft?
They can be used to decorate the garden for the San Juan festival and hung between trees, to celebrate a birthday, or any special event. You can even get more creative and intersperse some string lights to enhance the colors.
If you enjoy this type of DIY, we have more ideas on the blog for home projects, such as these sailor shirts for the little ones in the house.
We are confident that your customers will be inspired to try this craft to bring a festive atmosphere to their gardens and terraces. They can even look fantastic on any wall, on the porch, or on the bed headboard…
