How to Make the Reusable Sandwich Bag Step by Step
The craft we propose today is a perfect alternative to single-use wrappers and, at the same time, a very easy way to take care of our planet.
Learn how to sew a reusable sandwich bag for mid-morning snacks at work, for your children’s school, for snacks, or for a family picnic. It’s a craft you can do with very few materials and can be a great gift for special occasions, like Father’s Day, for example.
For this DIY, we have chosen a Scottish cotton fabric, but it can be made with any other type of fabric, even with ribbons that you may have left over in the drawer… Why not give them a completely new purpose?
Materials needed to make the sandwich bag

- Manubens sewing closure tape Color 20
- Cotton fabric
- Food-grade plastic
- Thread (for machine sewing)
- Scissors
- Pins and clips

Step 1. Cut the fabrics

We will cut the materials according to these measurements:
- 30 x 40 cm of cotton fabric
- 1 strip of 10 x 7 cm from the same cotton fabric
- 30 x 40 cm of food-grade plastic
- 1 strip of 10 cm of closure tape
- 1 strip of 20 cm of closure tape
Step 2. Sew the strip

Sew the 10 cm fabric strip inside out and turn it.

Iron and sew the 10 cm closure tape (hook part) to the fabric strip we just made.
Step 3. Sew the closure tape on the fabric

Find the center of the 30 cm, place the strip snug to the edge, and sew it.

Turn the fabric right side up and sew the 20 cm closure tape (loop part) on the opposite edge and also centered.
Step 4. Sew the food-grade plastic lining

Place the piece of food-grade plastic and machine-sew around, leaving a small opening to turn it.
Step 5. Finish with a topstitch

Once turned, sew a topstitch around the edge to finish.
And there you have it, our reusable sandwich bag is complete! Go ahead and gift this DIY craft to one of your family members! Aren’t you eager to organize a picnic for the next weekend?
