How to Renew Christmas Balls Step by Step

Tired of seeing the Christmas tree decorated the same way every year? Do you feel like renewing it to give it a more modern touch in line with the decor of your home? Reds, greens, golds, and silvers are the colors traditionally used in Christmas decorations. And if you combine them with beige, whites, blacks, burgundies… Why not an all-white tree, as if it were snow-covered? Or multicolored? We still have time to get to work on making unbreakable Styrofoam Christmas balls or redecorating the old colored glass ones with the craft we propose today. Are you ready?

Materials we will need

  • Manubens P.4600 gingham ribbon, 16mm wide, in colors 48, 1, 602, and 8.
  • Manubens P.950 velvet ribbon, 7mm wide, in colors 46, 87, 770, and 330.
  • Styrofoam balls, 8cm in diameter if you want to make new balls.
  • Scissors.
  • Pins.
  • Hot glue gun.

How to make the balls step by step

Cut 16 strips of the ribbon you will use to cover the ball, in this case, the gingham ribbon. For an 8 cm diameter ball, cut strips of 12.5/13 cm.

If you want to recycle balls you have at home, measure the semicircumference of each ball (the distance between the top and bottom points) and cut strips accordingly. The quantity will depend on the size of each ball.

Start gluing the strips to the Styrofoam ball or old balls with the hot glue gun.

Start from the center of the ball and glue the ribbon as seen in the image, from the top center to the bottom center.

Continue gluing the strips in a cross shape, dividing the ball into four quarters.

Continue filling in the gaps, gluing the strips in the center of each quarter.

Now, all that’s left is to finish covering the remaining gaps. You can use as much ribbon as you like to make it well-covered; it looks beautiful when the fabric overlaps.

Once the ball is covered, cut 22 cm of velvet ribbon to make the hanging strip.

Fold the strip and secure it to the ball with a pin. If you are recycling old balls, make the bow directly on the hanger.

Cut another strip of ribbon and make a bow as seen in the image.

And there you have it, your personalized ball with the colors you love! They are beautiful and super easy to make. Are you ready to give it a try?

In the Manubens catalog, you will find 17 colors of gingham ribbon and 44 colors of velvet ribbon so your customers can combine them with their preferred tones.

This year, the Christmas tree will have this special touch that sets it apart from the others, and Manubens will always be by your side to provide the most suitable materials for each project.

Happy crafting!
