The proposal we make today will be perfect for decorating the lid of a gift box, making a garland to decorate a romantic dinner, or giving a heart in a spectacular package… The possibilities only have one limit: your imagination.
You can even make the hearts in other colors if red or pink don’t convince you. At the end of the post, you’ll find the meaning of the colors. Don’t miss it.

What do we explain in this article?

1. Materials needed to make handmade Valentine’s hearts

To make these fantastic hearts, you will only need
- Manubens P.750 rat tail cord:
- Color 076: fuchsia
- Color 030: makeup
- Color 551: sangria
- Color 533: pale pink
- Color 029: salmon
- A heart-shaped mold or template.
- A pen.
- Cardboard.
- Scissors.
- A hot glue gun.
2. How to make the craft for Valentine’s Day step by step

To start this love craft, draw a heart on a piece of cardboard. To make them perfect, we used a cookie cutter. You can also use templates of different sizes that you can make yourself with paper.

Cut out the silhouette of the heart with scissors. Take advantage of it to draw and cut out all the hearts you need.

Put a dot of glue in the center.

And glue the end of the rat tail cord.

Wait for the glue to cool, and start wrapping the heart with the rat tail cord, without following any order.

Tighten the cord to secure it well.

When you see that the heart is well covered, cut the rat tail cord.

Tuck the excess end between the last wraps of the winding to finish it nicely and glue it with another drop of hot glue.
Repeat the same procedure for all the hearts, using the different shades of red and pink from the Manubens rat tail cord.

What do you think of these hearts as a homemade Valentine’s Day gift? A craft to express love to your partner, your children, your parents, and even your friends. Something you have made personally with all your love to show them your affection on this special day.

4. Where does the tradition of Valentine’s Day come from?
As we explained in this recent post, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love and friendship celebrated in almost the whole world, even in countries with a non-Christian tradition. Do you know the story?
Legend has it that St. Valentine performed Christian marriages, forbidden at that time, in the prisons of the Roman Empire. When this fact reached the ears of Emperor Claudius II, he ordered Valentine’s arrest, and under pressure from officials, he was beheaded.
It is said that while in prison, Valentine saw that the judge’s daughter was blind and, in love with the young girl, he prayed for her to regain her sight. As he was taken to the scaffold, he was able to hand a paper to the girl who, astonished, managed to read it. The paper said “Your Valentine” as a farewell.
Since the year 484, Valentine’s Day has been a celebration of love and affection between partners, children, siblings, or friends.
5. The meaning of the colors of the hearts
We already know that the red or pink heart is the symbol of love par excellence. But it doesn’t only speak of romantic love but also of the deep connection that can exist between two people, whether they are family or friends.
But you can also use other colors to convey your message in a handmade Valentine’s Day gift. Let’s see what they mean.
The yellow heart represents love related to friendship. It conveys a message of happiness and connection between two people.
The orange heart is between red and yellow. If you send orange hearts, you are saying that you don’t want a deep relationship with that person but something more than just friendship.
The green heart is used to represent love for nature, an ecological lifestyle, and respect for the environment. It has no connection with relationships between people, unless you are both environmental activists!
The purple heart is associated with compassion, affection, and care, and is widely used between parents and children. It is also often used in feminist circles because of the color, a symbol of the feminist struggle. It is very appropriate to send to parents or a sick person.
The blue heart conveys a message of calm and tranquility. It speaks of hope and solid love. You can send a blue heart to a friend to indicate that you trust him.
White is the color of purity, and giving a white heart can symbolize a parent’s love for a child, a love that lasts over time. You can send it to a loved one to express that you have a beautiful relationship or a cherished friendship.
