Handmade Original Brooches for Any Occasion

Get in Style! Personalize your look with these DIY brooches

Brooches are back in fashion and have made a strong comeback as the final touch to a modern and, why not, original look. From ancient times to Coco Chanel, the brooch was a jewel par excellence in the luxury attire of men and women. Forgotten since the 70s, brooches have returned to our lives to add a touch of glamour to our look.

Decorative brooches are not a recent invention. Visigoths, Celts, and Vikings wore brooches made of precious metals with religious, floral, and animal motifs. The brooch was very useful for fastening clothes, such as the plaid worn by the Scots over the shoulder or scarves over the shoulders. In the Victorian era, double models became fashionable for holding portraits and hair of a loved one, as well as bows and cameos. In the 50s, they ceased to be exclusive pieces of jewelry. Coco Chanel introduced fabric camellias and costume jewelry brooches to make these accessories more affordable to the general public.

As with fashion, after an “overdose” of brooches, they were forgotten in the 70s. Only some older ladies with a more classic look adorned their dresses and jackets with pins. Since then, the brooch was a forgotten accessory until today. Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel to Zara, everyone is rediscovering the brooches that our predecessors wore with so much passion.

At Manubens, we also advocate for decorative brooches as a fashionable accessory for modern women. This tutorial will teach you how to make handmade original brooches and customize them with your favorite colors so you can wear them on any occasion.

2. How to make handmade original brooches step by step

Once you have chosen the colors of the ribbons for your design brooch, take the end of the color you want in the center of the brooch and start wrapping it as seen in the photo.

When you have the thickness you like, cut and glue the end with a drop of silicone.

To change the color, put a small drop of silicone on the ribbon of the new color, join it with the end of the previous one, and start wrapping again.

Repeat the process with all the color changes you want until you reach the size of the brooch you like.

Glue the clasp with silicone on the back.

And there you have your finished brooch, ready to wear! Beautiful, easy, and unique. Repeat the process as many times as you want and in the colors you like the most. How about some in red and green for your own Christmas brooch?
